TRACK AND FIELD OFF SEASON INFORMATION

2026 Track and Field Season

APRR is beginning to plan for the upcoming 2026 Track and Field Season and will release information as soon as it becomes available.

TRACK & FIELD VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

The success of our programs depends heavily on community involvement. This year, many of our long-standing coaches, board members, and volunteers will move on from APRR. We need your help more than ever to continue providing a fun and challenging environment for youth athletes.

We need volunteers for the following positions:

  • Coach: Familiarity and/or experience with track and field events is preferred (running, long jump, shot put, javelin, etc). Coaches will attend practices regularly and assist at meets. Athlete(s) registration fees will be waived/reimbursed if a parent volunteers to coach Track and Field. Coaches must complete a background check and safe sport training before the season begins to qualify for this incentive. All costs associated with the check and training are reimbursed.
  • Assistant Coach: No experience with track and field is necessary. Assistant Coaches supervise athletes and assist coaches and junior coaches, attend practices and meets.
  • Parent Volunteer: As in past years, parents are expected to volunteer to assist at least two practices. No experience with track and field is necessary. Sign-up information will be provided at registration.

If you are interested, and/or have questions, please reach out to us at [email protected].

Track & Field General Information

Track & Field Season begins in April and runs through the Junior Olympics Qualifiers in June, where kids can then qualify for the Junior Olympics Regionals or Nationals later in July and August.

When: Practices will be on Monday and Thursday nights from 6:30 pm to approximately 7:45pm.

The first practice includes a mandatory information meeting for parents. Parents must be available to pick up their kids 15 minutes prior to the end of practice.  Track meets are scheduled throughout the season.

Where: Averill Park High School track, behind the school.

Who: Kids ages 7-14 who like to run, jump, throw, play games & have fun! You do not need to be a resident of the Averill Park School District.

What:  Practices consist of distance and sprint exercises along with lots of games.  Field events include long jump, high jump, hurdles, shot put, turbo javelin and discus.  There will be several meets throughout the season where we are competing against other teams.  The big event is your participation in the Junior Olympics in June.

How:  See our How to Register Page for details.  Early-Bird and sibling discounts are available. A $15 late fee is applied after the season starts.

** We are a 501(c)3 Non-Profit organization and do not want the cost of APRR Programs to be a barrier to participation. If your child is interested in participating but your current financial circumstance is a concern, please contact the APRR Board. Scholarships are available.

All athletes must also be registered with the USATF (United States Track & Field Association).  Registrations cost $35 for youth and are good for a calendar year.  Your USATF membership can also be used for Cross Country in the fall.

Get your child's USATF number first because you will need it for the AP Road Runners registration process.  USATF registration is required for all athletes, as our insurance is through USATF and we are a USATF Sanctioned Club.
